Forests play an essential role in maintaining ecosystem balance and supporting human life. However, pressure on forests due to land-use change and unsustainable activities remains high. This study aims to analyze changes in forest cover before and after pine resin tapping in Sumarorong District, Mamasa Regency, West Sulawesi. The research employed a quantitative method using primary data from field observations and secondary data derived from Landsat 8 satellite imagery for the period 2011–2023, analyzed using ArcGIS and Google Earth Engine. The results show that villages engaged in pine resin tapping experienced an increase in forest cover and a reduction in open land, while villages without tapping activities tended to experience degradation. These findings indicate that pine resin tapping can serve as an effective economic incentive mechanism to reduce deforestation rates and support community-based forest conservation. The application of this research can be integrated into community-based forestry policies, the strengthening of local economic institutions, and climate change mitigation efforts through enhanced forest cover.
