Abstract

Ecological footprint and carbon footprint are essential indicators for assessing the environmental impact of individual activities, as they reflect the level of natural resource consumption and the resulting carbon emissions. This study aims to analyse the levels of ecological and carbon footprints and examine the relationship between these two indicators to illustrate the contribution of individual activities to environmental pressure. The study employed a survey approach involving 296 respondents. Data collection was conducted through online questionnaires. The data were then analysed descriptively to determine mean values, minimum and maximum values, and category distributions, while the relationship between variables was analysed using the Spearman correlation test. The results indicate that the average ecological footprint of respondents is 2.31, with a minimum value of 0.03 and a maximum of 9.83. Meanwhile, the average carbon footprint is 0.92, with a minimum of 0.00 and a maximum of 5.47. Category distribution shows that the majority of respondents fall into the low ecological footprint category (47%), followed by moderate (34%) and high (19%) categories. A different pattern was observed in carbon footprints, where the majority of respondents are in the moderate category (49%), while the low and high categories account for 23% and 28%, respectively. The Spearman correlation test results demonstrate that there is no significant relationship between the ecological footprint and carbon footprint (ρ = 0.059; p = 0.322; N = 286). These findings suggest that the two indicators represent distinct dimensions of environmental impact, necessitating separate analyses in efforts to promote more sustainable consumption behaviour.
