Abstract

This study analyzes the contribution of agroforestry patterns to farmers’ income and identifies socio-economic factors influencing income variation among members of the Lestari Forest Farmers Group in Pabuaran Village, Sukabumi Regency. Using purposive sampling, 35 farmers were selected, and data were obtained through field observations, structured interviews, and documentation, then analyzed with descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression. The results show that farmers practice diverse agroforestry combinations of timber crops (sengon, jabon, mahogany, bamboo, gmelina, teak), food crops (rice, corn, cassava), and horticultural crops (chili, ginger, turmeric, banana, avocado, and others), with annual net income from agroforestry ranging from IDR 3,633,500 to IDR 23,887,500 and total household income (agroforestry and non-agroforestry) ranging from IDR 9,312,500 to IDR 37,247,500. On average, agroforestry contributes 62.65% to household income, thus serving as the main livelihood source. Regression results indicate that land size positively and significantly affects both agroforestry and total income, while agroforestry patterns show a negative and significant effect, whereas age, education, number of dependents, and number of crop species are not significant. Overall, the model explains more than 70% of income variation (R² = 0.700 for agroforestry income and 0.713 for total income). In conclusion, agroforestry plays a crucial role in sustaining farmers’ livelihoods in Pabuaran Village, but income variation is largely shaped by land size and crop combinations, implying that proper pattern selection, supported by continuous extension services and local government policies, is essential to optimize household income and ensure sustainable community livelihoods based on private forest management.
